Newcastle United Requires Additional €13m to Complete Signing – Club Initiated Pursuits in January Transfer Window

Newcastle United pursued Atalanta standout Éderson during the winter transfer window. According to TuttoMercatoWeb on February 2nd, the Magpies were prepared to submit a €40m offer for the 24-year-old midfielder and had made multiple attempts to push Atalanta into a deal, albeit unsuccessfully. Additionally, Newcastle’s efforts to secure Éderson’s teammate, Teun Koopmeiners, also ended without success, as reported by Il Bianconero, who referenced Newcastle United’s involvement while discussing Juventus’ interest.

Juventus’ technical director Cristiano Giuntoli and sporting director Giovanni Manna have harbored long-standing interest in the Dutch midfielder and have initiated their pursuit of the 25-year-old. The Serie A giants are eager to secure his services and have already taken initial steps towards that goal. Following Atalanta’s refusal to entertain Newcastle’s offer during the winter window, Juventus would require at least €50m to secure the midfielder’s transfer.

Reportedly, a few weeks ago, Atalanta turned down a proposal of £40m (€47m) from Eddie Howe’s side for Teun Koopmeiners, which likely involved a loan arrangement to alleviate financial strains. Atalanta deemed the January window unsuitable for allowing one of their key players to depart midway through the season.

According to Italian reports, any club interested in acquiring Koopmeiners’ signature would need to offer around €60m in the upcoming summer transfer window. In essence, Newcastle must increase their offer by €13m to stand a chance of securing his services.
