The lowdown on new Bayern Munich player Sacha Boey

Bayern Munich has secured a new right-back in the form of Sacha Boey, formerly of Galatasaray. The 23-year-old French player takes over the position left vacant since Benjamin Pavard’s departure to Inter Milan last summer. Boey, unlike the versatile Pavard or the on-loan Josip Stanišić, is not a center-back/right-back hybrid. Instead, he is often compared to the current Bayern right-back, Noussair Mazraoui.

Ryan Babel, Boey’s former teammate at Galatasaray, shared insights with BILD, recalling how initially, the club considered parting ways with Boey due to limited playing time and injuries. However, Boey’s physical strength and adaptation to Turkish football and culture turned things around, making him a crucial part of the starting lineup. Described as a smart and technically strong full-back, Boey excels in attacking play, particularly in crossing, which bodes well for his potential partners like Leroy Sané and Harry Kane.

Babel emphasized Boey’s warm and sensitive personality, predicting that he might initially be reserved in the new dressing room until he feels accepted. The former Galatasaray coach, Okan Buruk, praised Boey’s hard work and regretted losing him but acknowledged the financial situation at Galatasaray made the transfer inevitable.

With Boey’s addition, Bayern Munich’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, now enjoys an exciting array of options at right-back. Boey’s arrival could potentially push Konrad Laimer back into midfield, and it remains to be seen whether he can challenge Mazraoui for a spot in the starting lineup when Mazraoui returns.
