“Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has stated that the decision regarding Toni Kroos’ contract renewal rests solely with the player himself, as he considers whether to extend his tenure with the club for at least another season.
Last year, there were speculations surrounding the German’s future, with suggestions that he might retire from football at the end of the 2022-23 season. However, Kroos opted to sign a one-year extension and has continued to be a key figure for the club this season, featuring in 30 matches across all competitions, contributing with one goal and seven assists.
Ancelotti is reportedly advocating for the 34-year-old to commit to another deal until June 2025, but he affirmed that Kroos will have the final say on his future.
“Kroos’ decision on renewal will be made at the appropriate time and in the manner that suits him best,” Ancelotti informed reporters during his press conference ahead of Saturday’s crucial match against Girona
“Kroos’ mother, Birgit Kammer, has also shared her perspective on the matter, suggesting that her son’s ‘happiness’ will ultimately determine whether he continues his journey at the Bernabeu.
Regarding his potential contract renewal, she remarked, “His renewal? That would bring joy not only to his coach, teammates, and myself but also to Leon (his son) and many others,” during an interview on the Einfach mal Luppen podcast.
However, she emphasized that ultimately, Kroos’ own happiness will dictate his decision. “But ultimately, he needs to be happy, so he will make the choice. Whatever he decides, we will support him wholeheartedly,” she added.
Kroos joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014 and has since accumulated 447 appearances for the Spanish giants across all competitions. During this time, he has scored 28 goals and provided 96 assists.
