Liverpool reports a postponement in the Anfield expansion project.

Liverpool has announced a further delay in the opening of the new upper tier in the Anfield Road stand, extending the closure until the end of the year. Consequently, fans who had purchased tickets for the October 21 game against Everton will have their tickets canceled.

Originally, the new tier was anticipated to be ready for the 2023-24 season, increasing Anfield’s capacity by 7,000 seats to over 61,000. However, due to delays and a change in the contracting company, the capacity will be reduced to approximately 51,000.

Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan stated, “We will have to maintain the current seating arrangement for the remainder of the calendar year, which means that Anfield’s capacity will remain the same as it has been for the previous home games this season.”

This decision also affects the match against local rivals Everton, for which Liverpool had already sold tickets with the intention of opening a portion of the upper tier for the Merseyside derby. Hogan added, “Regrettably, we won’t be able to accommodate fans who have purchased tickets for the upper tier. Our team has identified these supporters, and they will receive direct communication next week.”
