Mbappe’s Brace Leads Unbeaten France to Euro ’24

Kylian Mbappe secured France’s place in the Euro 2024 with a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands, scoring twice in Amsterdam. France now qualifies for the tournament with two games remaining. The Netherlands, who won the European Championships in 1988, will have to compete with Greece for the second spot in Group B.

Despite concerns about Mbappe’s form due to an ankle injury, he opened the scoring after just seven minutes, expertly converting a cross from Jonathan Clauss. The Netherlands, depleted by absences, struggled to create chances, and it wasn’t until the first half ended that they threatened, with a shot from Joey Veerman going over the bar.

Mbappe extended France’s lead with a magnificent curled shot into the top corner in the 53rd minute. It was his 42nd international goal, moving him ahead of French legend Michel Platini in the all-time list. The Netherlands appeared to have pulled one back, but Donyell Malen’s effort was disallowed for offside. The Dutch managed to score a late goal through Quilindschy Hartman.

France will play against Scotland in Lille on October 17 and conclude their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign against Gibraltar and Greece next month. The Netherlands will face Greece on October 16 in a crucial match, followed by matches against Ireland and Gibraltar to end their qualifying campaign.”
