The Magpies shine brightly on a special Champions League night against Paris Saint-Germain

Newcastle United experienced a dream UEFA Champions League (UCL) night, securing a remarkable 4-1 victory against Paris Saint-Germain and extending their unbeaten streak to 15 consecutive European home matches.

The atmosphere at St. James’ Park was electrifying as the UCL anthem played for the first time in two decades, and the players matched the incredible energy of the fans.

In the 17th minute, a poor pass from Marquinhos was intercepted by Bruno Guimarães, who headed it towards Alexander Isak. Although Gianluigi Donnarumma saved Isak’s powerful attempt, Miguel Almirón clinically converted the rebound, marking Newcastle’s first goal in the competition since Alan Shearer’s brace in March 2003 against Inter Milan.

Newcastle continued their relentless pursuit, with Fabian Schär narrowly missing a second goal from Kieran Trippier’s corner. Despite PSG’s possession, Dan Burn’s header from Guimarães’ cross, after a tense VAR check, doubled Newcastle’s lead, sparking euphoric celebrations.

Eddie Howe’s team maintained their intensity after halftime, as Kieran Trippier set up Sean Longstaff for a powerful shot that eluded Donnarumma. PSG responded in the 56th minute, with Warren Zaïre-Emery providing a perfectly weighted ball that Lucas Hernandez headed past Nick Pope. Despite PSG’s attempts to capitalize on nerves among the home support, Ousmane Dembélé was thwarted by Jamaal Lascelles’ excellent recovery challenge and a strong save from Pope.

In a fitting conclusion to an unforgettable night, Fabian Schär won the ball high up the pitch, executed a one-two with Jacob Murphy, and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner. Newcastle extended their unbeaten streak to six consecutive matches across all competitions, claiming the top spot in UCL Group F. PSG, on the other hand, has won only two of their last 10 away matches in the competition but remains second in the challenging ‘Group of Death’ following the draw between AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund.
