Former Celtic manager takes over as the new head coach of Birmingham following the dismissal of Rooney.

Tony Mowbray, the former manager of Celtic, has been appointed as the new head coach of Birmingham City on a two-year contract. The 60-year-old steps in to replace Wayne Rooney, who was dismissed after just three months at the helm of the English Championship side.

Mowbray’s most recent coaching role was at Sunderland, where he was relieved of his duties earlier this season due to a poor string of results. Expressing his eagerness to lead Birmingham City, Mowbray stated, “I can’t wait to get back on the training pitch and start working with this talented group of players. My focus is on building their confidence, delivering results, and providing Blues fans with a team they can be excited about and proud of.”

Acknowledging the passionate support of Birmingham City fans, Mowbray looks forward to their backing, starting with the upcoming match against Swansea City. Birmingham City co-owner and chairman Tom Wagner highlighted Mowbray as the standout candidate, emphasizing his knowledge and passion for the game. Wagner expressed confidence that Mowbray shares the club’s ambitions and will bring stability during this crucial period.

Garry Cook, the chief executive, praised Mowbray as the right leader at the right time for Birmingham City, citing his track record of delivering results, playing attractive football, and providing opportunities for young players. The decision to appoint Mowbray received positive feedback from various sources, solidifying the belief that he is the ideal choice to guide the club forward.
