Under-pressure Manchester United manager contemplates an unconventional idea for his potential next coaching role in case he’s dismissed from Old Trafford – the possibility of Erik ten Hag taking over

The Dutch coach is facing mounting pressure at Old Trafford following a series of costly defeats in both domestic and Champions League competitions. Manchester United recently suffered a loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League, and they faced back-to-back defeats in Europe against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

While Ten Hag did achieve success by winning the Carabao Cup and securing a top-four finish in his debut season in English football, he has had disagreements with players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. Consequently, there is a pressing need for him to reverse the team’s fortunes, especially after receiving substantial funds for transfers.

Former Ajax striker Kenneth Perez has raised the possibility that Ten Hag might consider returning to Amsterdam after less than 18 months in Manchester. Perez suggested on ESPN’s Voetbalpraat, ‘Imagine if Erik ten Hag were to be dismissed, wouldn’t it be too surprising for Ajax to bring him back? Manchester United has a reputation for facing challenges when results are not favorable. So, it’s not an entirely far-fetched idea, is it?’

During his previous tenure at Ajax, Ten Hag won three Eredivisie titles and managed over 200 games. However, achieving consistency with Manchester United has proven to be a challenge, and he is banking on significant signings like Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund to perform well in the 2023-24 season.
