“Newcastle disrupt Everton transfer plans with Dan Ashworth’s ‘inquiry’ for top player from German club

Everton’s prospects of securing the signature of Turkish talent Can Uzun have diminished significantly, with reports indicating that Newcastle United has initiated talks for his acquisition.

Uzun, an 18-year-old forward, primarily functions as a central attacking midfielder but possesses versatility to operate as a striker or right winger when required. Despite his young age, Uzun has already demonstrated his prowess at the senior level.

Having progressed through the Nuremberg academy, Uzun made his senior debut in May and has quickly established himself as a vital player for the German club.

Throughout the current season, Uzun has tallied an impressive record of 13 goals and three assists in 20 appearances, notably securing a brace during the Bundesliga 2 fixture against VfL Osnabruck last Saturday.

According to WhoScored, the teenager has consistently been Nuremberg’s standout performer this campaign, boasting an average rating of 7.11.

Notably, Uzun’s exceptional displays have sparked speculation that he may soon depart Nuremberg for opportunities at higher-profile clubs.

Newcastle’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, has taken the initiative to initiate an ‘enquiry’ regarding the potential parameters of a deal for Uzun. However, he is not the only one exploring this avenue, as Italian powerhouse Inter Milan has also reached out to Nuremberg officials regarding the player’s availability.
